The British countryside will never look the same again....,
This review is from: Visiting the Past: A Guide to Finding and Understanding Britain's Archaeology (Paperback)This is not just another guide to archaeology but a really readable and fascinating insight into the history of Britain and its impact on the British countryside. The scars on our landscape are there for all to see but so often we overlook them or do not understand their significance. Having read this book, I amazed how unobservant I have been. Even simple walls deserve a second look to determine their original age and purpose.
The book is well laid out in chronological order from the Stone Age to the Industrial Revolution with clear sections in each chapter of "What was life like", "where to go", "Look out for" and "Top Tips". It covers the length and breadth of the British Isles so you are never far from a sight mentioned in this well researched book.
