Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sony Xperia L SIM-free Android Smartphone - Black (Electronics)
bought this to replace my old android which is now in pieces,
This is a good phone, nice camera, runs apps fast.
The value is amazing hence the 5 stars, you cant go wrong with this.
although if you want to play games ect maybe look at something more expensive... which i never understand in people , if your gonna spend £500+ on a phone just buy a pc or console... but its your money.

Hi - thank you for taking the time to post a review. I've considering buying this phone and wondered how you've found the camera function response time? I've read a few reviews which are generally quite positive but they do say the camera function is slow to respond compred to other mobiles.

Great phone for gaming! It has a better gpu than last years s3! Although the camera is a joke, no matter how perfect the lighting, pictures always come out looking soft.
I've had a n8 which was amazing at photos then a arc s which I thought was poor but this takes poor to a new level. Unless there is a way to tweak it for better results although I've not discovered it yet only had it for a few days.
The camera does open and work quickly though as with everything else on this phone, runs jelly bean perfectly, no lag.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Kajak, it's much appreciated and very helpful.
I've been scouring through reviews and have seen references to the picture quality, although not quite as damning. There does seem to be agreement across them all that the night time/low light pictures are lacking, which would effect people taking snaps on nights out etc. 1 review in particular was very critical of the camera function having a lag but I suspect that may have been an early 'test' version phone they had.
It's a shame, I have £80 of rewards to use with Virgin who are offering the phone for £179.99 at the moment, so it's within my price bracket. Unfortunately their PAYG phone offerings are very limited and I'd hoped this would fit the bill.

I've had a few more days or so with it now and possibly I was a bit harsh. I have managed to get some decent photos out of it but nothing that is amazing zoom in quality but good enough.
It does struggle in low light, hit and miss. It gets the odd picture ok but sometimes just cant even focus.
Overall so far I'd say it does take good enough photos for the price. I managed to get mine off an ebay auction brand new for £150. One of my mates got a brand new Xperia SP off ebay last night on a buy it now for £190!
May be worth having a look at the SP as well, see if Virgin offer that one.
But if the L is your only choice and you only have to stump up £100 it is well worth it for that!

I know its a long shot but have you taken the lens protector off? I thought my xperia U camera was trash until I realised there was a bit of tape over it!
