Get angry and get selfish,
This review is from: How We Treat the Sick: Neglect and Abuse in Our Health Services (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)Cases of children being let down by 'the system' regularly make the headlines, similar cases of those involving adults, often older adults, being equally neglected rarely make the news.
Someone from Age UK once told me the only way to improve health and social care for older people was to get angry and selfish. If everyone started caring about their own future treatment the problems would be wiped out in a few years. There's no greater catalyst to getting and angry and selfish than reading this book. It's expertly written to be accessible and unbiased, sources are stated and where possible 'both sides' of the story are given. The writer is as clear about what can't be inferred from the cases, as much as what's clearly demonstrated.
This is an emotionally difficult book to read, but there's a lot of value to be had for everyone strong enough to face the current unacceptable situation.
