Jacques Brel est BELGE!!!!,
This review is from: Infiniment: 40 Chansons (remastered - high definition) (Audio CD)
JACQUES BREL WAS BELGIAN, NOT FRENCH!!! He just sang (mostly) in French. Get it right, Amazon...Those Belgians have got enough to worry about without you getting their cultural icons wrong!
Get this CD, it's great. Faves are Bruxelles (hint?), La Biere and Amsterdam. There's even one song where he has a go at singing in Flemish!

Yes, he was Belgian, from a Flemish family. He did not speak very much Dutch, though, preferring to speak and sing in French. (Flemish is not a language, by the way, just an umbrella term for the various Dutch dialects spoken in Flanders.) And one only has to listen to Les Flamandes and Les F (Chanson comique!) to see his attitude towards the Flems.....! With Phil Ochs, he is my favourite singer/songwriter.
