This review is from: Instant Inflatable Gay Best Friend Perfect Gay Best Friend In A Box (Toy)
Interesting. As a gay man, I would've considered this a gag gift, since I consider it fairly (as in completely) obvious that this was an attempt at humor. The fact you disagree with this humor does not entitle you to force people to stop selling it. Well, legally you can, doesn't stop it from seeming... ahem, reactionary (tamest possible adjective). Unfortunately, I can not purchase it at this time, but will do so as soon as possible, since I think my boyfriend would get some laughs from it. I am unsure when it would arrive, or whether it is even advisable that I purchase it due to my location, but I think the seller should get some support from someone who has the amazing ability to not have a knee jerk overreaction to innocuous blow-up dolls on the internet.
I calculate that there is roughly a 0.001% chance that the seller actually thought that gay men are like this. It is far more likely that this invention had the support of a gay male like me who can not stand girls who say they want a "gay best friend" and then try to set up shopping dates for you and ask for relationship advice.
There is a market for gag gifts that are ridiculous. Many people enjoy offensive humor (although this is pretty tame) and insulting and otherwise overly silly gifts are a staple in all my relationships. Nearly all of the poetry I have written for the one I love is full of insults or are completely satirical, including my best hit, the one where I proclaimed that I found Jesus and proceeded to go on an anti-gay rant full of slurs (ending with a rather touching punch line). I won't even begin to describe the one my last boyfriend displayed proudly on his bedside table, for fear of hate mail.
I firmly believe that frequent laughter is important, and as long as one is sensitive to the people in his or her proximity and how they may not like a certain type of humor, offensive humor among like-minded individuals is just one of the many ways to make people laugh and bring momentary happiness into their life. Plus frequent laughter has been linked to an improved mood. Whether the relationship is causal or whether people with a better mood are simply more inclined to laugh has not been established. See, what I did there was a little thing called critical thinking... amazing, isn't it, not taking things at face value and questioning whether my initial reaction is valid? I think this should be a more valued skill in certain circles.
Will be looking at other products from this seller in the near future! All in all, my discovery of this product has given me something to laugh at and ridicule, perhaps in sarcastic ways :)
