I've had this album for some years now and it remains my favourite instrumental album of all time. Although I'm no musician I think I can hear and appreciate good music, but friends of mine who play semi professionally tell me the work on this album is sensational. Jerry Douglas is my favourite instrumentalist (I've seen him live a few times and he has to be seen to be believed) and for me he produces the most expressive sounds in any kind of acoustic (or electric) music. My best friend, a bass player, says that what Edgar Meyer does with a bass is almost impossible. And Russ Barenberg (who I've also seen) has the most laid back style.
All in all I think this is Jerry Douglas' most consistent album -on his other, solo, albums, he varies the content across a range of styles but on Skip Hop and Wobble the entire album is very focussed on the ensemble playing of just the three instrumentalists (with occasional contribution from Sam Bush and Bela Fleck). Acoustic music of the highest order, and an essential ingredient of any CD collection
