This review is from: Teenage Dream (Audio CD)There is something very likeable about this album, despite its flaws that it wears so translucently: teenage lyrics by someone no longer a teenager; some of the most tactless and unsubtle innuendo I have ever heard; production to please the masses and katy herself being far from a feminist or teenage role model in some of her lyrics! And 'Peacock' is truly awful and embodies everything her sceptics criticize her for: Katie really - what were you thinking?
But - and it's a big but - ('Peacock aside) it's just so melodic and lkeable! 'Last Friday night' is silly but incredibly hilarious, frothy fun and arguably the album's best song and certainly best video, but the album has some real gems that reminds very much of Paula Cole ('Where have all the cowboys gone?' and what became the Dawson's Creeek theme song): 'It's not like the movies', 'What am I living for' and 'Pearl' suggest something more consistently substantial than the singles so far suggest, yet to come.
I look forward to it!
