sci-fi/ occult movie fans should be offended.,
This review is from: Ultraviolet [DVD] (DVD)
The film is about a war that is happening between a race of vampire type creatures that are called heamophages and the human race. The vampires were once human but they contracted a highly contagious disease which turned them into these genetically modified creatures which as a result makes them genetically more advanced than the humans. The film is actually about the end of the war.
Despite the vampire race being genetically stronger and extremely contagious the humans have all but won the war with only a few haemophages left, Ultraviolet being one of them. I can see why the writer steered clear of the main conflict between humans and vampires because it has been done in other successful movies like Blade, Nightwatch, or Underworld. However I feel the film is poor because of this caged approach. We as viewers get no explanation as to why the humans are in this dominant position. We see very little conflict between the two races apart from between Violet and the humans and this leaves the question why are the vampires not the dominant race.
There are endless fight scenes but like the plot they lead nowhere and are bland and unrelenting. A parallel is Commando the movie where hundreds of men are shooting at Ultraviolet but none of them can hit her.
I liked the idea of the film, hence why I rented it, but to be honest it is complete drivel. The plot is poor, the characters weak and the visual effects are not great. However if you are a serious sci-fi fan/ vampire occult movie fan then I guess I would recommend watching it just to cross it off your list and set a new bench mark for how bad a movie should never ever be.
