This review is from: Fairy Tail 22 (Paperback)
While attempting to escape from King Faust's castle Lucy, Happy and Carla find themselves trapped between the army of Edolas and the Exceed Royal Guard. The situation changes though when the King reveals his true colours and his plan to bring eternal magic to Edolas, with the resulting Chaos allowing Lucy the two cats to escape and set about rescuing Natsu and Wendy. The power of the Dragon Slayers is necessary for the King's plan but when things begin to look bleak, unexpected reinforcements arrive.
This twenty-second volume of the 'Fairy Tail' manga is another entertaining volume of the series but it still isn't quite as good as some of what has come before. The plot begins to take an interesting turn in this volume and there are some nice fights as we get to see some Edolas magic used in an actual battle. The volume also has some nice humour throughout and a nice reference to the author's previous work 'Rave Master'. On the downside however, one of the more interesting battles is partially resolved off-screen and this is something of a disappointment.
The extra material in this volume includes the usual afterword and the Q&A section, as well some sketches for the design used for Panther Lily's sword. Unfortunately, this volume lacks the Translation notes that previous volumes had and this is something of an annoyance.
Overall the Edolas arc isn't one of the best the series has seen and this volume deserves around four stars.
