This book was such a chore to read, and if, like me you are unlucky enough to have it chosen by a teacher for your A level study, change your class NOW. Never before have I found a book so dull that I have nearly given up on it. The only way I managed to chug through it is the thought that I have to do a coursework that will hopefully get me my AS and the thought that maybe it might get better. I was sorely dissapointed.
Don't let the first chapters fool you that this will be a thrilling read from start to finish, I asure you it won't get any better until a certain resteraunt scene, which didn't last long enough to keep me hoping for the best.
To get to that last chance hope of a scene, you need to chug through chapter after chapter which goes nowhere and merely just wastes a few hours of your life, in which could of done reading something SO much better than this book.
Ian McEwan has done so much more better than this, so read one of those, or anything instead.
