Useful DVD in many ways,
This review is from: Jazz Upright Bass Featuring Ed Friedland [DVD] (DVD)My Husband bought this - his review:
I bought this as an electric bass player getting into double bass for swing, '50s rock 'n' roll and the like. I found this DVD great in helping me to transition. Ed's style is full of dry wit, both musically and verbally. I really liked the commentary audio track in the performance section - very funny, and again helpful. Combining this with the Ray Brown clips on YouTube helped me to get a reasonable left and right hand technique, tone that I was very happy with, and let me still use the musical knowledge from electric bass. I spent a couple of hours with this DVD, practised a bit, and did a gig in front of 1000 people. It was my first on electric upright (a Bassix EUB) and I had people coming up afterwards complimenting me on my tone. I put much of this down to Ed's explanation of jazz left hand technique vs classical, which he demonstrates very effectively.
