This review is from: The Creation of Anne Boleyn: In Search of the Tudors' Most Notorious Queen (Hardcover)
A brilliant book that's as easy to read as it is informative.
With her background as a cultural observer Bordo brings fresh insights regarding the perception and presentation of Anne Boleyn, citing contemporary accounts and the many subsequent biographies, novels and film. Bordo discusses what these skewed depictions might reveal about the authors themselves, and the readers and viewers who lap them up. However rather than coming across as judgmental, the book invites the reader to think critically.
If you are only interested in immersing yourself in fictitious depictions of Anne, then Bordo's book provides a useful compendium of what is available in print and film. However a combination of Eric Ives 'The LIfe and Death of Anne Boleyn' and Susan Bordo's 'The Creation of Anne Boleyn' will provide an excellent foundation for anyone who wants to seriously study the subject of Anne Boleyn.
