Disappointing second read!,
This review is from: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel (The Ya-Ya Series) (Kindle Edition)
This was a re-read for me and I regret it! I read this book when it was first published over a decade ago and enjoyed it very much, though not so much as The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, its sequel. Perhaps it's an age thing or perhaps there is so much more superior fiction written these days.
The two books tell the story of a group of American women - the Ya Yas - as they grow up and have families in 1950s America. Some idyllic tales and some pretty horrific because of the alcoholism of one of the group. It captures the politics and the era very well. This time round, however, I found it tedious and disappointing. I felt the author was writing it without any passion. In fact, it was dull.
You might not feel the same! The sequel is, I believe, a much more satisfactory tale.
