Perfect your your hols!,
This review is from: Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years: The Python Years 1969-1979 (Paperback)The first thing that struck me when this arrived was how thick the book was (700+ pages), the second was how similar his diaries are (in tone) to most of his television work. He doesn't sound much different (even at 20) than he does today! The diaries read like an extra-long version of his travel series (as he comments on Python and the seventies with the same laid back charm and erudite wit we've come to know him for).
It is true, that there is a lot of repetition (as another reviewer has mentioned, there are countless Python meetings etc.), but I've saved this for reading in chunks on holiday so it has never really been a problem. I suppose that if you read it in one go like a book, then it may well become a little tiresome. For putting in your suitcase and dipping into each time you go away over a couple of years (or even back home when you feel like a "holiday" read), though, it is the perfect summer travelling companion.
