This review is from: Silent Hill HD - Collection (PS3) (Video Game)
I had been looking forward to picking up this collection since the day it was announced and now, after several delays, it is finally here and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Being a HD collection the game is incredibly sharp and the majority of the textures have been redrawn to a much higher standard of detail. Both games seem to run at 60FPS, though SH2 noticably drops when exploring outside locations, but not to an unplayable standard as some people would have you believe.
-The reduced fog hasent detracted from the experience at all, nor have I seen enemies/items just 'pop' up like some claim.
-Controls and button response in both games are identical in every way to the PS2 versions, nothing has changed there.
-Minor sound issues do exist but are easy to get over. In SH2 the SFX for spent gun shells tends to ring out quite loud and stutter a bit. In SH3 the BGM may mute itself, though this has only happened to me twice in a complete play through.
-Both games are a little bit brighter than the orginals by default, nothing that cant be fixed by a bit of tweaking in Options.
-Screen 'noise' isn't as noticable as before but doesnt bother me at all as I turn it off the moment the option unlocks anyway.
-New voice acting is a pain in the rear end and is sad that you don't get the choice of new or original in SH3 like you do in SH2.
Overall a very good remaster of 2 brilliant games. Could it have been better? Probably, but what we have got is still great and a total joy to play. From what I can gather, the US version of the collection was/is a total bug fest and it seems to be affecting reviews on the UK/EU version, which from experience is nigh on bug free.
If your a fan of Silent Hill I totally recommend getting this collection, don't pay any attention to the bitter comments and bad reviews. The original games weren't perfect either.
