Amazing for a low-budget horror,
This review is from: V/H/S [DVD] (DVD)
I said to myself, "this film is going to make or break me buying anymore horror films", as a lot of the horror films I purchased before this one were absolutely terrible. I purchased this film yesterday, watched it and I have to say...for a low-budget horror movie, this is pretty good. The only thing that might irritate some people is the camera work as it shakes a bit.
This film is basically about a group of idiotic freaks who go around vandalizing things and then are told to break into a house to retrieve a VHS tape. The owner of the house, an old man, is dead on the couch in front of a TV with a load of VHS tapes around. While the others look around the house for the tape, one of them decided to watch a few and basically that's the story to the film - 5 tapes, 5 stories and I like films like that.
Tape 1 - Some friends go on the pull and bring back two girls to their hotel room. One of the girls is a murderous vampire-like creature that starts killing them. I'd give this a 3.5/5 - pretty good. In fact, one of the best out of the five.
Tape 2 - A couple go on a trip and this freaky girl follows them. You see her in their hotel room as they sleep, watching over them with a switchblade. At the end of the story there is a twist. 3/5. Alright, not great.
Tape 3 - This one was pretty good. Four friends, two guys and two girls (one of the girls is HOT), go on a like a camping trip in the woods or something. Whilst there, this strange human/demonic thing kills all of them. Twist during the middle of the film. - 4/5.
Tape 4 - This one is the weakest out of the five. Some woman is video chatting to her boyfriend about her apartment being haunted. This one is a little confusing but there is a twist towards the end of the story. 2.5/5.
Tape 5 - Three friends go to a house, as they think it is their friend's house for a Halloween party. Whilst there, strange things happen and they mess about in the house until they go upstairs, find a woman chained up and some people trying to perform an exorcism. - Pretty good, not great. 3/5.
I'd recommend this film to any horror fan as long as you don't mind the camera work.
