Well Worth The Extra Wait,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hydra [Double CD + Media Book (100 page booklet)] (Audio CD)
Great see and hear WT go back to what they do at their brilliant best: Go into the studio with some partly worked ideas /themes/ lyrics for stand-alone songs, try out /shape up what "works", kick out what doesn't, come out with an album that even on a first play the album just "hangs together" as a whole .
"Best WT album ever"?? Well maybe its still way too early to say, through probably not quite (ask me again in a few weeks!)
Much as l still often playlist some half of "The Unforgiving" , that "concept album" (comic-books-and -all) approach did I thought lead to a constrained and in places contrived result , eg 3 songs as strong as any others were relegated to the bonus edition for not fitting the concept in the comic book storyline .Or maybe there was just not enough light to see the dark (ok, maybe I'm not explaining that bit too well!)
Starts with 4 of the 11 Covers already included a very "low-key" release last year on Q Sessions album - personally "Summertime Sadness" stand out from the other 3 by a mile. So the other few original Q Music Radio sessions are still missing and unlikely to ever make it onto any WT album now ..maybe down to legal stuff, who knows?
Ends with 4 earlier "Evolution" versions of Hydra songs, I guess this means something more than a "demo" but WT thought they still "lacked something" so they are included by way of explanation for the release delay....think I'll save these for later, after many plays of the finished work!,
CD3 "Instrumental" Hydra(In Box Set only)
Decided to pass on this. Now I do get fully the idea of Alcohol - Free Beer/Wine for Designated Drivers-home and the like ...but "Sharon- Free Within Temptation"?!? The like has been tried before of course, like by Nightwish an album or two back: I did at the time out of curiousity "sort of" intend to get round to playing the instrumental version ,but still have never quite got round to it...so likely it would be the same here!
(Put out a Box Set or anything including a CD of "Acoustic WT" just Sharon and Ruud as in their various music store & radio promo sets and I'd buy that like a shot...some real "chills down spine" moments in material that would complement"Hydra perfectly. Ah well, maybe with a NEXT album....???)
