This album does something very interesting. It takes a range of identifiable Californian sounds and distills them into something that could have effortlessly crawled from the Louisianna Swamp. It were as if Band of Horses took the genial sound of Granddaddy and moved it into The Eagles back yard. The effortless alt-country feel is no doubt underpinned by the North Carolina roots of the founding member Ben Bridwell. Although plodding in some small places, it still manages to be something greater than the sum of its well considered parts, due largely to masterful writing as seen on the up-beat Loredo, or as on the beautiful and harmonious For Annabelle, both of which of themselves make this a worthwhile album.Throw in the wickedly addictive Dilly, and Older and you will find you have been all ready well rewarded for your purchase.
