Shame About The CD!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Live from Amsterdam (Deluxe Edition With Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I love live albums as they represent the real essence of any artist and for me they should be second best only to being there on the night! I ordered this AB album last year and had been anticipating it's appearance after the release date was put back a couple of times (I'm not quite sure why the delay as this material was recorded quite a way back - maybe they just didn't want to lose any sales to the brilliant AB III release?)
Anyway, on it went and I went through the first few tracks and mmmmmmmmm, I was not happy!. The recorded sound was not good! Yes, you can hear the crowd whistle and cheer and yes, you can hear Myles' vocals (when he's close to the mike) but the separation of the bass and guitars is so muddy that the tunes are almost lost in the barrage of sound. I tried using the graphic equaliser to rectify the problem but to no avail and I have to say that I am more than a little disappointed as AB's three studio albums are brilliantly recorded! My hifi equipment has cost me a lot of money over the years and I know that the awful sound quality is down to the recording, not my system.
However, all was not lost - I flicked over to the DVD and played the set list there and found the sound was great! It just means, therefore, that this album will not get the listening time it deserves as I cannot be listening to the CD in the car with such poor sound differentiation!
All in all, bearing in mind the price, this is not a bad package, but, without the DVD, this would have ranked no better than 3 stars at a push - if they could have got the sound right on the CD (the very reason why I purchased this album in the first place), it could have been the full 5 stars

Completely agree with this review.
The sound on the CD is a total mess and I find it hard to listen to. You just cant hear any of the riffs. Its just a mixed 'noise'.
DVD on the other hand is great!

Thanks for that - I must say that when you read some of the reviews by others, they just rave on about it (and other albums where the sound is awful) and you just sometimes wonder what on earth they think they are doing praising the album when they should at least make a reference to the fact that the sound is not what it could have been - maybe people don't care any more - I certainly do and, while spending a small fortune each year in building my collection, I can get a little peeved when I get albums like this that could, and should, have been so much better - oh well, you live and learn!

I think some people just dont have an ear for it. On so many occasions I have gone to a live concert which had terrible sound and heard my friend tell me he thought it was amazing.
Its not a case of opinion, its a simple fact that the sound is off. Alter Bridge are great and the DVD is a cracker but shame about the cd
