A writer of considerable merit,
This review is from: Reflections on a Marine Venus (Paperback)
Laurence Durrell is a writer of considerable weight and merit, but one who doesn't seem to be acknowledged as such. This book about his stay in Rhodes just at the end of World War Two, is not just a pleasant amble around the island, but rather a fascinating historical record of island life in the Aegean in the post war years. Durrell is a master at creating evocative pictures with his writing.
