Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a debut novel destined for the summer holiday market. Hollywood Sinners follows 4 couples lives during the build-up to a big movie premiere in Las Vegas. There is the superstar action hero married to an up and coming younger actress; his vengeful ex-wife and her failing second marriage to a cheating comedian; the ingénue model trying to break into the movies with her rockstar boyfriend; and the Las Vegas casino owner and his singer fiancée with the Vegas-connected family. The plots become entwined through the course of the book leading to an explosive ending.
Hollywood Sinners was quite well written - the prose was fresh and the characters well developed, however, they were also very stereotypical. It wasn't too much of a stretch to compare them to real-life Hollywood stars, so not much originality from the author. Certainly I had predicted the climactic ending about halfway through, and I wasn't wrong! Sadly this book was full of cliché and predictable plotlines. I felt I had read it all before by authors such as Jackie Collins, Shirley Conran and Judith Krantz... about 20 years ago!
If you are early to mid 20's and looking for a lightweight beach read, then Hollywood Sinners would be a good choice, especially for fans of celebrity magazines like Heat and OK.
