3.0 out of 5 stars Escape from the 80's...!!!?, 25 Mar 2014
This review is from: Escape From The Shadow Garden (Audio CD)
Great Cover Art - Music inside does not follow it up, which is a shame as I have been looking forward to the album since it was announced with the cover art.

I feel that the music although good, Magnum as a band are stuck in the Eighties. They could have taken more risks with it, but it just plods along. No outstanding tracks on the album, all to predictable I am sorry to say.

Mind it's still better than most of the rubbish on offer in the current UK Music Scene, just not enough risks with it lads. Could have been so much better than the artwork leads you to believe it's going to be.

Looking forward to Uriah Heep's follow up to Into the Wild due out some time in the next few months...!!!
Alex

if ya don't want magnum to sound like magnum then listen to something else, magnum are an eighties band anyway what did you expect to here coldplay or something? imagine the quo trying to play one direction tunes?? you are what you are, people who take risks trying to be up to date so to speak usually fail and let the fans down (metallica).

thelad says:
Sorry, but musicians are creative and most like to try different things. Look at how Rush have evolved over the years, taking risks and experimenting. They have certainly not let the fans down. Ditto Iron Maiden, who have moved towards longer, more complex 'progressive' tracks over the years.

With regard to this album, I think that the reviewer has got is absolutely right.
