This review is from: Quilting by Improvisation: Exploring Curves, Openwork and Dimension (Paperback)
I bought this book years before I ever dared to start quilting. I find it technically daunting, even though I am confident with advanced dressmaking techniques. There is something truly awesome about Vikki Pignatelli's creative genius. She shows us how to machine applique, how to create quilts with built-in holes, how to use fabric tubes, and some very liberating fabric cutting techniques, which are just so removed from the "twiddly", geometrically rigid, technically exact productions of yesteryear, that I was very nearly incapable of applying her techniques to my own quilts. Almost! This book is wonderful, inspirational, creatively challenging, but also very simple in it's technical application. It really is easy to follow her lead to stunning results. The only challenge is to take her examples and try to follow on with original art of our own. One day, I will use her techniques to create something amazing. One day, when I am brave enough (or have a stash big enough!)!
