A Great britsh Comedy,

This review is from: Barnacle Bill [DVD] (DVD)This is a film to savour with a wonderful performance from Sir Alec Guiness as a seasick naval officer who takes leave of the navy to buy and run a delapidated old pier. He runs it like a ship and eventually wins the hearts and minds of the locals (except for the corrupt council officials who had a hidden agenda).
If you want a really great feel good film with gentle comedy free of all the brash coarse humour of so called comedy today, then this is the film for you. It reminds you of the long gone golden age of Britsh comedies for which the ealing studios were justly famed.
It is even more special to me as the resort in which it was filmed in the 1950s (Hunstanton) is where I and my parents spent wonderful carefree weeks when I as a child stayed in a caravan there and would take a ride on the train that used to run along the pier.
This film is a true classic. If you want to remember what Britishness is really all about then get a copy and enjoy
