5.0 out of 5 stars Far more than a superb camera., 2 Dec 2012
This review is from: Nokia 808 PureView Sim Free Mobile Phone - Black (discontinued by manufacturer) (Electronics)
Firstly, while it is fashionable to criticise the 'Bellle' OS as being 'old hat' it does have much to recommend it, as does the accompanying 'Nokia Suite'.
I purchased my 808 from Amazon.de for approximately 362.
On setting up the phone,I was unable to obtain a connection to my Network provider, and eventually ascertained that I had to manually input APN settings for the Network, so anyone buying an 808 from Amazon.de should be prepared for a possible problem.
Subsequent set up was problem free,as was transferring my iTunes media from PC to phone (something which I have not been able to achieve with the Lumia 920).
In use, despite it's thickness, the phone's form factor makes it very comfortable to hold, and use.
The paper spec, especially screen resolution, may seem outdated, but I find the phone very smooth to use.
Additionally, there is the benefit of expanding the memory by way of a micro SD card.
And then we have 'the icing on the cake' which is the superb camera, and it's UI.
Keen photographers will not feel too short changed by the range of user adjustments on offer (again something which cannot be said of the Lumia 920).
However, just setting the camera to 'Automatic' produces excellent photos.
As for video, something I was unaware of until discovering the setting as a preference was that there is an option for video stabilisation.
All in all,the 808 is well worth consideration, especially at Amazon.de's price.

Thanks for your review. Are there any warranty issues with buying an n808 from Germany?

Like the other poster, I too was wondering about warranty.

Also, how easy was it to buy from amazon.de - do you need to speak German to know your way around or did you use Google translator for example? Do you not have to pay VAT or high postage costs?

As far as I am aware, there is an EU wide 2 year warranty on Nokia phones.
The IMEI number of my phone was verified by http://www.nokiatechsupport.co.uk/NokiaIMEIPage, so presumably any warranty service would be carried out by Nokia in the UK.
If an item requires a return to Amzon.de, then they have their own return centre in Germany.
One would certainly need Google translate to work one's way around the 'Returns' procedure.
If one has an Amazon UK Account then the same order/payment procedure is employed by Amazon.de.
As for the amount charged by Amazon.de, their website price includes the standard German VAT rate of 19%.
For a UK order, the VAT rate is increased by 1% to our standard rate of 20%.
There are no addional UK charges levied on an import from an EU country.
The shipping charge was Euro 2.92.
So, against the website price of Euro 439.99, I paid a total price of Euro 447.09.
The odd thing is that orders placed in the UK with Amazon.de are in fact despatched from a centre in Milton Keynes.
However, it should be noted that the documentation supplied with the 808 is entirely in german (although a full english User Guide is available for download from Nokia's website), and the mains plug is a 2 pin european.

Hi,
You're welcome.
Just to advise that Amazon.de has reduced their price for the black 808 to Euro 399.
So, the 'all in' price for a UK purchaser should be approximately 330.
