This review is from: Bitches Brew (Audio CD)
This is a tricky one.
Let's start off with the obvious: the sound quality is excellent and no Miles Davis collection would be complete without this controversial album which marked something of a landmark in jazz.
Will you like it? Let's be honest, it's a bit mad - I'm no music scholar so that's about as sophisticated as my analysis gets. It's interesting and I think there's a lot to be said for it: there are ideas here which really change the way you think about what music is. There are times when you can count several different time signatures at once, yet the music somehow staves off descending into total chaos.
My mind is still not quite made up on this. I think it's kind of brilliant in its own way, but I wouldn't chose it over one of Miles' more conventional works. Bitches Brew, however, is a journey worth taking. Although I'm not sure it was in quite the right direction, as they say, you have to go there to come back. A purchase worth making? Certainly. Hence the 5-stars.
