Finally, MTX are back!,
This review is from: Yesterday Rules (Audio CD)
Well, it's been a long wait since the last MTX album, four years!
This album sees a couple of new members and a shed load more of that pop-punk we love so much. We can see a continuation of the 50s/60s retro sound of the last couple of albums, but this one really gets it right. It's really not a shame that MTX sound less like a punk band with every new release, because the more the distorted guitars are turned down, the more of the bands personality seeps though. So now we can here the twanging solos, the organ, the ooohs and aaahs of the backing vocals, and it makes for a very sweet mix.
Dr Franks lyrics are witty and poignant , and as ever, their all about girls (more or less).
The song highlights include "The Boyfriend Box" "Elizabeth or Fight" and "Institutionalized Misogyny" is hilarious.
The Mr T Experience may not be the most experiemental, virtuosic or ambitious band in the world, but they have a sound and a style which is unique to them, and it is very endearing. If you're going to like them, you had better have a sense of humour and a taste for punchy pop punk.
