This review is from: Being Human - Series 1-5 Boxset [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
First I heard of this show it sounded like the sitcome from hell. People told me about BBC 3 bringing out this vampire, werewolf and ghost show as a one off experiment and I steered so well clear of it I think I might have left the house. When it got renewed for a full series I started to look at cheaper alternatives to avoid watching it but then I saw an advert or two and thought it might be worth a go. There was also the DW link but that felt a little too weak to make me watch a show. After all that was how I ended up trying Torchwood and immediately trying therapy. But Being Human was something else. It was, at its best, smart and funny and dark as hell. Yes, okay, we all got a little tired of the vampire junky game that Mitchell used to play but the characters grew and their world sharpened and horror got some much needed British thinking. Then came Tom and Hal, who for me were the much needed push the show needed. I loved series 4 and 5. For me their double act was far more entertaining than what came before them. Come, a vampire with OCD? Isn't that what the world post Twilight needed? I even linked the slightly cheesy twist ending. And this series does feature possibly one of Mark Gatiss' best performances. So there was no way I was not buying the complete boxset. Now I travel down those dark, wild roads again. Lia's prediction. The werewolf in the decompression chamber. The vampire in the attic. The zombie clubber. Even Crumb and the littlest vampire. And, of course, the Captain. Hell, there are even extras! I won't be going out again for some time.
