This review is from: The Bone Thief: (Wulfgar 1) (Hardcover)
I met the author at an archaeological seminar on Viking age sculpture when she mentioned that she was about to publish her first novel. I'm a great fan of historical novels, especially anything that touches on post-Roman Britain (Dark Ages? pfah!) so to find out that an academic specializing in the period was having a bash at fiction piqued my curiosity.
I had a very enjoyable afternoon in York for the book launch where we were treated to a couple of readings by the author (you really should do the audiobook) and a talk on the difficulties of researching the period. When I finally got chance to sit down and read the book I was not disappointed.
Very well researched, the period is brought to life incredibly clearly. The attention to detail is fantastic, and each character stands out from the page, even the minor ones.
The Bone Thief comes highly recommended, and I can't wait for the next installment in Wulgar's adventures.
