I *heart* roomba ...,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot (Kitchen & Home)
Although pricey, I think this machine is totally worth it, and wouldn't do without it. There are many other 5star reviews which cover box contents etc., so I plan to cover my unique experiences with 'zoomba' as we call it.
We live in a small, open plan house, with one big kitchen / front room / diner, and it takes about 30m to an hour to clean the bottom floor. We set it to go off every evening and generally don't have to think about it or worry. We have laminate flooring but with pets can be messy, and I don't have to empty it except every three weeks to a month. It holds more than you think. So much thought has been put into this machine...I've had it about a year and only cleaned out the hair from the rotors for the first time, so I think the maintenance is stellar. All the insides are Color-coded yellow so it feels intuitive taking it apart for cleaning. It comes with a cutter to use on hair. This is awesome. My last dyson multi floor head got hair tangled in it and I had to send for a new head (on the warranty) because I couldn't even unscrew it to get the hair out. Not an issue with this. The whole brush comes out and I use the included swiped cutter to easily remove hair. It also came with replacement brushes and filters, but I've not needed to replace them, a year in. It also buffs the floor a bit as it cleans, so we don't have to mop as much. Huge bonus.
I held my breath the first time I used it upstairs, but it really works and detects edges and never been a problem. I do upstairs much much less, so tray needs to be emptied. We're pretty neat and tidy so I've never had issue with wires or furniture. About once a month it misses a patch here or there but that doesn't bother me. It works on a spiral pattern, it doesn't 'know' your room. It goes back and forth looking for dirt and keeps cleaning until its sensors don't detect any. You can put it to bed when you've had enough. (Fairly noisy, less noisy than a normal Hoover, but it lasts longer). I love the musical cues when it needs attention. This is what gives it such personality. I've gotten rid of my dyson and have bought a cordless handheld for the car, stairs, and pet specific cleaning we may need. I'll never have to carry a heavy Hoover up the stairs again.
We have the docking station against a wall, and it never has problems docking unless its pushed a shoe in front of it while cleaning. At one point the docking station started making a clicking sound, so we contacted iRobot and they got back to us quickly with a troubleshooting guide and sent us a new charger straight away, so the support was absolutely excellent.
I have no qualms recommending this, it is well designed, excellent service and so useful. Deserves 5 stars. I think the naysayers who review it poorly must expect it to make them tea, because I can't understand how anyone could be disappointed with it. It's one of the best things I've ever bought. I balked at the price, but find its worth even more. I will buy it again when this one dies (no, zoomba, no!) I looooove it.
