Poems to Learn by Heart,
This review is from: Poems to Learn by Heart (Hardcover)
In Poems to Learn by Heart Ana Sampson has provided an excellent selection of some of the best (the popular as well as the challenging) English language poetry available. There is something here for everyone and, with the poems categorised (loosely) by theme, to suit every mood and occasion. While there are many famous (from school days at least) poems included - such as Kubla Khan by Coleridge, The Raven by Poe and Night Mail by Auden - there are also a great number of more obscure works so that even regular poetry readers should be able to discover something new. The majority of the poems are presented in full although some - such as The Lady of Shalott and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner - are just offered in extracts. This is an absolutely beautiful collection of verses to treasure and is sure to delight if given as a gift.
