Clearly this worked flawlessly for some. It didn't for me. The drivers on the mini-CD would not install properly, so I had to use the driver install described in I.L. Atkin's post - 'Okay, but you need to be a bit savvy...'. Thanks for that. It was a huge help.
Rebooted and it all seemed to be OK....but it wasn't. As soon I plugged in my Toshiba HDD, up came a very scary system message that the hub had exceeded its power limits. I thought it might have corrupted the Tosh HDD or damaged my motherboard. Luckily, it hadn't done either.
This card went into a Win7-64bit, cheap and cheerful, Zoostorm G630 dual core. In my PC, it simply will NOT work from power through the PCI-E connector alone. Luckily the Zoostorm PSU has 2-3 molex connectors spare. It was just a case of snipping off a cable tie to get at the molex. As soon as it was in, a green LED started glowing on the card - it did not glow when the card was using PCI-E power alone.
Re-booted and, finally, everything worked. I get consistent 75,000-110,000 KB/s throughput to my USB3 devices which is 3-4 times what I had before. For £10, I'm very happy. I just wish it wasn't such an almighty faff to install. And no fixing screw/s is/are included. That's so annoying. I had to make do and mend with a cable tie to keep the card in place while I order a pack of assorted PC screws.
