An entertaining read on three levels,

This review is from: Writing Away: A Creative Guide to Awakening the Journal-Writing Traveler (Travelers' Tales Guides) (Paperback)
My only adverse point is that the sub-title, including 'the journal-writing traveler', could put off some readers who would thoroughly enjoy this book. Lavinia Spalding has created an entertaining read on three levels that are seamlessly well woven together. Her take on journaling will encourage someone new to the practise without patronising anyone that has been doing it for years. Whilst her points are clearly aimed at travellers, you do not have to be a traveller to enjoy her personal anecdotes. Her third level is when she touches on aspects of personal growth. Here she makes her points but avoids falling over the edge into that hippy-dippy land of purple kaftans and dubious pop psychology. Don't be put off by the author photo with a strange pose where the dominant teeth and weird shoulder are suggestive of a shark surfacing. I am sure Lavinia is attractive but, her photographer should go back to photo-school.
