I'm basing this on hearing it round a bloke's flat who works in what used to be called the music business. Put simply people, everyone can relax. Stop holding your breath - this record and this band is ON FIRE.
The cockiness and frenetic excitement of the early years has been replaced with a new confidence that oozes out. They've never sounded so much like a band before. Maybe a little heavier (but you wouldn't know Josh Homme was in the producer's chair - they ain't gone desert rock) but looser too. Crucially this lp is full of tunes. Melodies that take a while to get in your head but once in don't leave. Very rarely have i heard a bnad sound so tight and relaxed at he same time. Their sense of purpose about what they're doing is palpable and unbelevably exciting.
This is better than expected, lyrically Alex Turner is still twitching with insight and observation but the band have caught up with him.
Out of control
