This review is from: China Road: One Man's Journey into the Heart of Modern China (Paperback)
This is a enjoyable read. It's well written and well balanced book. It is just a massive shame that there are no photos. I found myself goggling places mentioned in the book(the lake of heaven for example)just to get a idea of what they looked like. Gillford paints a fantastic picture in your mind just you never really feel like your actually there in the way Micheal Palin's books do. I will say that I like how he doesn't try and sell China to you. He just gives a honest view.
Don't let me put you off buying it. If your flying to China this will past the time well. I just feel this book could have been better.
