FASCINATING - BUT SCARY,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Knockoff: The Deadly Trade in Counterfeit Goods: The True Story of the World's Fastest Growing Crimewave (Hardcover)
This book is absolutely riveting. It starts off in a fairly low key way, detailing basic knock-offs that we're all aware of - handbags, cd's, dvd's etc. It throws up some interesting anecdotes & statistics.
It then digs deeper into the world of fakes, linking fakes with organised crime. It shows how some criminals prefer dealing in fakes rather than drugs, as fakes viewed as being relatively harmless & as such, they fall further down the investigation (& punishment) scale.
It becomes scary when it starts talking about fakes that can kill - prescription drugs, car parts, aeroplane parts.
Fascinating reading for anyone who thinks that fakes are limited to cd's, dvd's clothes, watches etc. This is well worth the read.
