Stick to the 1989 original,
This review is from: The Little Mermaid II - Return to the Sea [DVD] (DVD)
One of the most dishearting factor of Disney is the past decade is that magic of originality has been leaving the magic kingdom. In other words, Disney has sacrificed creative for the quick buck. And all of that is on display here in "The Little Mermaid 2".
Basically, all the sequel is bascially a rehash of the first film; i.e. Ariel wanted to live on the land but here her daughter Melody wants to leave in the sea. The reason I have given this two stars instead of one is that most of the original cast returns. Saying that, a lot of them don't seem to have the same energy they did the first.
The songs here will make fans of Ashman and Menken's music cry. In fact, there is not one song here that is the slightist bit memorable or catchy. The opening song made me cringe. The animation can go from nice to over-cartoony from different places it is distracting. The colouring at times is also too garish. And can't Disney come up with some villian? Please, the sister here is just like Ursula only skinny. You can basically imagine Ursula being here but has been on a diet.
I for one recommend you not buying this sequel because you are only funding the Disney sequel machine. Make the originality return to the Magic Kingdom before they decide to make Robin Hood's son wanting to become an outlaw.
