This is a great series, and if you're prepared to immerse yourself in the book will give you a pretty good handle on the workings of this fascinating (and ancient) language. However you really need a native speaker or very good pronounciation help (youtube etc) if it's to be an effective aid to communication rather than a study in linguistics.

As the author, I would just like to say that this book is not intended to be a guide to communication; it is a grammar reference book which should be used in conjunction with a book such as Colloquial Latvian which I co-authored.
