This review is from: Quiet Is the New Loud (Audio CD)
From the first strums of "Winning a Battle, Losing the War", you are hooked into this divine Scandinavian piece of harmonic genius. The lyrics are melancholy and yet somehow uplifting - the "Everything is new" break in the opening track a classic example of this, making the sun break through the clouds at just the right moment. "I don't know what I can save you from", remixed by Royksopp, is even better in it's bare bones here. "Failure" is another example - downbeat yet positive in a way that nothing else I have discovered is.
The keys to this album are several - the voices are really unusual and clear, the harmonies are superb, the guitar work is very impressive. But perhaps above all, it is the lyrics that make this - quirky and incredibly original - thoughful without being depressing. "Using the Guardian as a shield / I cover my fags against the rain / I do not mind about my hair". Try finding stuff like that somewhere else.
If you haven't got it, get it. If you have got it, why are you reading this instead of listening to it?!
