This review is from: And When Did You Last See Your Father? [DVD] (DVD)
The title of this review is what I learned from this DVD. As Sarah Lancashire was included in the billing + Jim Broadbent I assumed it would be a good film. Sadly, despite the acting talent the actual story is very DARK, confusing - endless flashbacks and sudden flash forwards. There are also some disturbing scenes of death from cancer. These could have been shorter and achieved more dramatic impact.
It is beautifully filmed but the scipt is the weakness - Sarah Lancashire only as one decent scene, and half of Colin Firth's characters scenes are him as a child played by a young actor.
If you had domineering, unloving father, you will definitely find this film disturbing.
It maybe okay as a novel, but as a film?
