Shakespeare...funny!? Why ever not!?,
This review is from: Much Ado About Nothing [DVD] (DVD)
Shakespeare is supposed to be dull and boring isnt it? I mean HAMLET is four hours of complaining...followed by everyone dying!
However..Much ado...is abosolutely hysterical...and nothing proves it better than this film!
From the rabble rousing opening scenes of the men on horse back...to the...ummm...rabble rousing..dancing at the end, the pace hardly ever lets up. The dialouge is as fast as the editing...and Branagh and company deliver them with such emphusiasm...that it is hard not to get caught up in the merry making.
Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thomson...spark off each other like fireworks and the chemistry between them explodes onto the screen.
Of the other performances three stand out as more than a match for the above duo.
Denzel Washington...is inspired in a role which calls for him to be regal..aloof but yet friendly and approachable. He manages this with ease.
Richard Briers more than holds his own with the Hollywood big guns and proves, once again, why he is a legend on the British comedy circuit.
Michael Keaton....what can i say? He is funny. Nuf said.
All in all this is a bright, funny and exuberant romp.
As Denzel Washington commented..."We went to Italy, had a party only somebody brought cameras and left them on."
