This review is from: You Talkin' To Me?: Rhetoric from Aristotle to Obama (Kindle Edition)
It takes a while for the author to enlighten us about "rhetoric" as it has developed down the ages, but the somewhat dry slog through the jargon and key historical figures is worth the effort once we are allowed to examine some noteworthy examples. I learned some interesting things, which is what leads me to give this book a good rating, although I would have liked some more insight into whether a good rhetorician is born with the skills or has them nurtured through his/her education. The role of the speech-writer nowadays is nicely judged and there are enough touches of humour and references to current politics to keep the academic basis of the publication entertaining throughout. I'm glad I invested in what was a cut-price offer.
