Mixed response as always with Dudamel,
This review is from: Sibelius: Symphony No.2 / Nielsen: Symphonies Nos.4 & 5 / Bruckner: Symphony No.9 (Audio CD)
As always with Duduamel, there are no one rating this as a middle-of-the-road 3 (on a scale up to 5).
You will meet only ratings as 1 or 5 (and pehaps some 2 or 4). But no rates this as a 3.
For me this is a love affair between a young (although already famous) conductor and an old established orchestra.
The orchestra really knows this music much more than the conductor, but they respect him extremely and
let him implement a lot of new special ideas.
As a total, perhaps the Sibelius is not the best you've heard.
Perhaps the Bruckner isn't the only version you want. Perhaps the Nielsen is.
But it's all the same music making of highest order, and should be counted as one of the most interesting CDs this autumn.
Buy it, and give yourself an evening, together your CD player, you won't regret.
A strong 4.
