This review is from: Complete Works For Piano (Collard) (Audio CD)This compilation should be a welcome addition to the collections of Debussy and Ravel fans, particularly those of their piano music. The Debussy material is uniformly excellent, particularly the Petite Suite and Six Epigraphes Antiques. Ravel is less well represented, but I am admittedly biased as I have never been overly fond of either La Valse or Rapsodie Espagnole in their orchestrated incarnations. That said, the Mother Goose suite is possibly even more charming in this pared-down setting and both Entre-cloches and, especially, Frontispice (the latter for two pianos and a fifth hand, an interesting combination) are wonderful. His arrangement for two pianos of two of Debussy's Nocturnes is also great.
Buyers should also note that although there is no mention made of it on the front cover, you are also getting works by Dukas (an excellent L'Apprenti Sorcier, for two pianos) and Bizet (the enjoyable, if somewhat slight, Jeux d'Enfants, for four hands - 12 short pieces that form a whole thematically similar to Satie's Sports Et Divertessements but closer in spirit to Debussy's own Children's Corner).
Overall, this a thoroughly enjoyable compilation that is also great value for money.
