This review is from: Intouchables [French edition] (DVD)
This is an outstanding film. It is extremely funny and in part very exciting. It begins with a really amazing sequence of high speed driving, through the tunnels of the periferique in Parisat night. The contrast between the lives of black immigrants living in the banlieue and the very priviledged white upper class in a chic area of Paris was quite shocking. Yet the combination of poverty and strength combined with money and physical frailty was one of its greatest features.
This film is about diability but it is in no way patronising, mawkish or depressing.
I have only seen it dubbed into Spanish and I am really looking forward to seeing it again in the original.

Were English subtitles available on the DVD?

Not on this French DVD release. To date, no Intouchables DVD has been released with English subtitles. The US rights holder for the film will be releasing a Region 1 (NTSC) DVD (see US Amazon site), but you would need a DVD player that can play Region 1 DVDs and a TV that can handle NTSC. Your only hope at present it to wait and see if a Region 2 (PAL) DVD with English subtitles is released at some future date. It's daft, because it does exist with English subtitles (I watched it on the IFE system during a flight last month).
