Expensive and surpassed by the iPad4 but still excellent hardware,
This review is from: iPad 3 NEW iPad 32GB WiFi Black ipad 3 Tablet (Launched March 2012) (Personal Computers)
I bought the first iPad when they came out and loved it - it totally changed the way I browsed the internet plus gave a great platform for apps.
I chose to skip the iPad 2 as it didn't have enough features on it for me personally, but I really wanted the retina display after getting used to retina on the iPhone 4. When the new iPad arrived I was really underwhelmed with the display - it was under quite harsh lighting and didn't look too impressive. However once out of the office environment I could see the difference. Comparing the game GeoDefense on the iPad1 and iPad 3 you could see instantly the difference and the higher pixel density - well worth the wait and the extra price.
For me, the wifi was fine as the extra £100 for the 3G version didn't really seem worth the extra price. With the changes to the Apple appstore, 32gb is more than enough as you can add/remove apps at will without taking up too much space on the device. The space is good for video and increasingly, for books - I tend to view a lot of magazines on the iPad and find it ideal (and cheaper than print versions).
OS wise, IOS 6 is really good and works well - the well publicised maps issue aside!
I would strongly recommend the purchase of a case as the back can easily get marked in day to day use, as can the screen - the product is tough but I tend to leave things lay around and prefer them to look good at this price!
The only issue that I have with the iPad3 is that Apple have now released the new iPad4 for the same price and slightly faster. After only 7 months. Not happy!
The upshot is that it's an excellent product and highly recommended. Expensive for the price, but you do get your moneys worth.
