Good quality MP3 with nice touchscreen,
This review is from: Samsung YP-R2 4GB R2 Toledo MP3 HD Player - Silver (Electronics)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Styled like an iphone (like so many things these days!), this is a small, lightweight media player. It's pleasent to the eye and has a tactile quality to it. It's a lot lighter than you expect though and I can't help thinking it would have been better if it felt a bit more substantial in the hand, but that's just my personal preference. The available space on the device is 3.5GB (presumably the other 500MB is for pre-installed software and demo files)
It's fast & easy to set up - no CD, just plug in the device into your computer with the usb provided and transfer the Samsung Kies software. There's also a 50+ page manual provided within the software but it's likely you won't need it because the device is so easy to use. I must mention I had some problems with the software crashing on me when I tried to use Samsung Kies on my desktop PC but an uninstall/reinstall seems to have fixed that.
It's not just for listening to music - you can listen to the radio, watch video clips, listen to audio books (which I'm really getting into now!) and even make voice notes. Bear in mind that there is no wi-fi on this device so you will need to transfer the files from your computer - not a bad thing but thought it worth mentioning. There is a Samsung Apps store icon that appears when you open Kies on your computer but so far I've been unable to access this ("please try again later").
Obviously this is one of the most important things here and I'm happy to report that sound quality is clean and crisp - I'm really impressed. Even the sound with the radio is very good - expect the odd crackle but generally very bearable. There is no internal speaker so you've got to use headphones (included) OR you can plug in an external speaker.
PICTURE & VIDEO / TOUCH SCREEN:
The screen is 2.5" x 1.5" in size (3" diagonal) which I think is a really good size for a device like this. The screen quality is surprisingly good and it's apparent whether you're viewing video clips or photos. Touch sensitivity is really good (quick response, no noticeable lag) and makes it so easy to navigate the menus quickly and intuitively.
If you already have a high-end smartphone, you might not have use for something like this - I have a Blackberry which is always choc-a-bloc full with pictures and emails so it's really nice having a separate device just for music. It's a good value MP3 player that is a joy to use - very easy and intuitive. I was pleasantly surprised with the touchscreen and the superior sound quality which to be honest, I just wasn't expecting.
