I feel your Payne ...,

This review is from: Max Payne (PC CD) (Video Game)
Max Payne, the good and the bad. Let's face it, if you like FPS games, the bullettime feature is a superb innovation, and if you don't like it you don't have to use it. Graphics and sounds are top-notch. Weapons, actions, settings etc are excellent. Shooting the rats is fun for instance. Try to shoot the speakers in the elevator and thus kill the elevator music - Max's dry reaction to that is hilarious. In that sense it's really worth playing. The story is quite good, but at times, the "gothic film noir" approach is overdone. The animated sequences between levels are acceptable because they make sense and aren't too long although one should be able to skip them. I think the non-animated parts between levels(which you can skip) are ok, but there's way too many of them. Second time round you just skip them anyway. What I really dislike are the couple of levels where poor Max is running around in a labyrinth dreamworld - there's no real action but you have to play your way through it anyway. All in all however, certainly highly recommended. I would buy a sequel to this.
