This review is from: Mastering Windows XP Home Edition (Paperback)
At over 1100 pages, this book may overwhelm the novice but for anyone with moderate experience of Windows XP Home, it is a very useful guide. Coverage of each topic is deep and authoritative enabling the reader to broaden his/her knowledge. You learn how to configure Windows not merely to enhance performance (always questionable) but with an understanding of what happens if you press this or that tab. Each chapter is methodically laid out and there are further sections ('Expert Knowledge' and 'Troubleshooting') that explore aspects of Windows that most guides do not even scratch. Its sections on Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Messenger, Media Player are thorough: all the things you have been doing wrong are in there somewhere! I was particularly impressed by its clear explanation of networks too. More than the sum of its parts.
