This review is from: Mixed Up Fairy Tales (Spiral-bound)I bought this for my 4 year old son with the remainder of his christmas money, due to the rave reviews, and also because we're a very "bookie" family. We have a huge collection comprising lots of modern day children's classics; Julia Donaldson, Lauren Child, Nick Sharratt, Andy Stanton, Cressida Cowell, Oliver Jeffers etc.
However, on receiving this book, I was immdediately disappointed with the quality; a hardcover, spiralbound, as mentioned on the description, but the paper inside is very flimsy, and with all of the thin horizontal strips on every page (that enable the reader to mix up the stories) and I can see this wearing out and ripping very quickly, despite having 2 children who take great care with their books. Also, the illustrations aren't as vibrant or great as I'd hoped, and for me (and most importantly, my son) it just isn't that funny. There are a couple of obscure stories in there too, that I don't even know, so I doubt my kids will!
Sorry to be such a killyjoy, and maybe it'll grow on us in time, but I certainly don't view it as worthy of "classic" status - in our family anyway. Thumbs down from us, I'm afraid....

I had this book my self as a child, I had the original hard back book, published in 2004 that is spiral bound in 2004 I was 12 and my sister was 6, so after two children reading the book mine are still in perfect, good as new condition, I believe they re published it a few years later with a less substantial hard back cover which may be the one your on about, the colours are very vibrant and the illustrations are fantastic, it is a wonderful concept that both my sister and I loved as a child.
